Christ’s Chapel of Alleyn’s College of God’s Gift at Dulwich is a Grade II listed building and active place of worship in Dulwich, consecrated in 1616. It is situated in one of the most picturesque spots in London, opposite the College Road entrance to Dulwich Park and next door to Dulwich Picture Gallery. The courtyard is open to the public every day, all year round, and offers an invitation to sit and reflect in the peace of the original College complex.

Whether you are attending weekly worship or simply curious to look inside, we look forward to seeing you at Christ’s Chapel.

On display

Christ’s Chapel is a peaceful oasis located in one of the greenest parts of London. Its interior features an expansive 16th-century oil painting of The Transfiguration by a follower of Raphael (c.1520-99). Most of the windows were made by James Powell & Sons Whitefriars Glass Co. The predella, the plinth supporting the altar table, is a fine example of c20th English marquetry and depicts the insignia of the four gospel writers.

An illustrated history of Christ’s Chapel written by Brian Green is available for a donation at the Chapel.

Accessibility and families

Christ’s Chapel is a Grade II listed building with uneven surfaces underfoot. The ground floor is accessible via the College Road entrance, or through Gallery Road. The nearest accessible toilet with baby changing facilities is located at Dulwich Picture Gallery. Christ’s Chapel has a toilet located in the Vestry. Unfortunately, the upstairs of the Chapel where the organ is located is currently only accessible by climbing a staircase.
